Top 20 fun things to enjoy in Kota Kinabalu! (No. 18 – Sip something cool at The Waterfront)

…and now a change in pace.

Today we’re relaxing at Kota Kinabalu’s Waterfront. As the name suggests the Waterfront is part of Kota Kinabalu’s sea front, located between the Waterside Markets (see blog No. 14) and Oceanus Waterfront Mall.

Comprising of around 20 adjoining bars and restaurants, there really is something for everybody here with Local, Chinese, Korean, Thai, Italian and what I’ll refer to as ‘Western’ (burgers etc.) food all readily available. All of the bars / restaurants have seating in the open on an adjoining wooden boardwalk next to the sea, so in the year round lovely warm weather most visitors choose to sit outside al fresco.

Popular with both visitors and locals alike, you can sip on a cold beer, chilled glass of wine, an exotic fruit juice or alternatively enjoy a ‘mocktail’. Whatever choice you make, it’s a great place to relax after a day’s sightseeing and there’s a real feel-good relaxed atmosphere here.

Bars tend to be open from 4 p.m. to 1 a.m. and many bars have ‘Happy Hours’ (e.g. 4 p.m. – 9 p.m.) when drinks are sold at a reduced price – this coincides perfectly with sunset and if it’s a nice day, and chances are that it will be you can enjoy one of Kota Kinabalu’s spectacular sunsets from a great vantage point.

Top Tip for Visitors:

Arrive just around 5 o’clock and wait for the sun to set

Come and say hello to the Blue Kinabalu team – we’re based next door on the ground floor of Oceanus Waterfront Mall and we’d be delighted to see you!
