Day 1 - Arrive Kota Kinabalu International Airport – Transfer to ‘KK’ City Hotel

We look forward to meeting and greeting you upon your arrival at Kota Kinabalu’s International Airport and transferring you to your hotel (Promenade 4 Star or similar) that will be your home for the first four nights of your tour. The rest of the day is free for you to enjoy.

Day 2 - Marampayan Mangrove River Cruises (Breakfast / Lunch / Malay Hi-Tea / Dinner)

The morning is free for you to relax and acclimatise and we are pleased to include in the tour the delicious Promenade Hotel Buffet Lunch which is a good opportunity to tuck in as your dinner will be in a local Malay hot buffet.

Your Blue Kinabalu tour guide will pick you up from your hotel at 1:30 p.m. and head north to the kampung (village) of Marampayan which is around 90km / one-and-a-half hours north of KK near the town of Kota Belud. Marampayan lies on land that sits between the picturesque Sungai Nanamun (River Nanamun) and South China Sea.

Upon arrival at our base, Habib Beach House you’ll be served a local Malay hi-tea and then we’ll take the five minute drive to the private jetty to take the first of two river cruises. Here, there should be an opportunity to view mangrove (subject to tide) and the beautiful unspoilt river system here. There’s wildlife in the area including long-tail macaques, proboscis monkeys and monitor lizards and your local guide will know the best places to look for these however as in all things natural there’s no guarantee of seeing wildlife. If it’s a clear day you’ll also enjoy an imposing view of majestic Mount Kinabalu.

Returning to Habib Beach House a Malay buffet dinner will be served and assuming it’s a nice day make sure you take a stroll onto the adjoining beach to enjoy the magnificent sunset. Then, after dusk  we return to the jetty for the night river cruise where we’ll look for fireflies (that are actually winged beetles) that congregate and flash in the mangrove to create displays that have been described as a “Summer Christmas Tree”. You’ll be amazed by the show that they put on however, as with all wildlife in their natural habitat there are no guarantees and the above is a sample itinerary. We will depart Marampayan around 7:30 p.m. arriving back at your KK hotel around 9:00 p.m.

Day 3 - Mari Mari Cultural Village – Kota Kinabalu City Tour – Sunset Dinner Cruise - (Breakfast / Lunch / Dinner)

After breakfast at the hotel, your Sabah adventure commences with a visit to Mari Mari Cultural Village. Located in foot-hills on the edge of the rainforest in Kiansom village approximately 40 minutes from ‘KK’ city centre this is an opportunity to acquaint yourself with Sabah’s five main local ethnic indigenous tribes. Immerse yourself in local history and culture visiting traditional houses and enjoy demonstrations of bamboo cooking, fire-making and blowpipe with an opportunity to participate. You will also have the opportunity to enjoy local traditional dances and lunch prior to departure.

In the afternoon we will take you on a tour of Kota Kinabalu city and highlights include a visit to the excellent Sabah Museum which provides a great overview on Sabah’s history and people. Also included on the itinerary are Tun Mustapha Tower, a stop at the stunning floating City Mosque in Likas Bay, Chinese Temple, Atkinson Clock Tower and a visit to the Signal Point Observatory Platform that has a great view of KK city.

The day will conclude with a Sunset Dinner Cruise where fingers-crossed, there will be an opportunity to enjoy one of KK’s famous sunsets accompanied by live entertainment and an international buffet. After the cruise, we’ll transfer you back to your hotel.

Day 4 - Free time in KK City / Nexus Resort & Spa Karmbunai (Breakfast)

The drive north to Nexus Resort takes is some 30km north-east of Kota Kinabalu and takes around 45 minutes. The resort is situated on the 3,335 acre rainforest Karambunai Peninsula, that includes a six kilometre pristine white sand beach and there’s a chance to enjoy a dip in the warm South China Sea on a beach that is amongst Sabah’s finest.
